How Chef7's loyalty module works

Customer loyalty is one of the most undervalued metrics in restaurants. According to Bain & Company (Customer Loyalty in Hospitality 2024), hospitality + restaurants average a customer retention rate of 55% and regulars account for 65-80% of sales. Chef7 includes a simple points module keyed on the phone number — no app for the guest to install.

Initial setup

• Points per unit: how many points a guest earns per unit spent (e.g. 1 point per GBP)
• Reward threshold: points needed to trigger a discount (e.g. 100 points)
• Reward discount: percentage applied once threshold is hit (e.g. 10%)
• Welcome bonus: points gifted on first registration (e.g. 20 points)

Illustrative example: an independent bistro

Imagine an independent bistro of around 40 seats. A new guest places an order; the server creates a card with name, phone and GDPR consent. The system grants the welcome bonus plus the earned points. On the next visits, the guest identifies by phone; once the threshold is hit, the configured discount applies automatically at the till, with no external messaging.

Owner dashboard

Registered customers, points issued, redemptions, return rate over time. Searchable list by name or phone with points balance, total spent, visit count and last visit date. Full transaction history with filter by earn or redeem.

GDPR without the headache

Each guest gives explicit consent at signup — required to store phone and history. Right to be forgotten honoured with a single click that wipes customer, points and history. Phone numbers are internal identifiers only, never shared with third parties.
